    Default Is the path wrong?

I have a question regarding installation.

When I installed zen cart I think perhaps I installed it one level too deep. At install, I named my folder catalog and uploaded it to public_html so now my path to is /public_html/catalog/includes/
Should the includes be directly under /public_html ?

The reason for my question is this. I am working on a site where DNS is still pointing to the current site so my address is ipaddress/~user/catalog/ instead of www.domain.com. I thought when I switched the site would become www.domain.com but now I think it will become www.domain.com/catalog/, which is not good.

My second reason is because I tried to install a slideshow and found I needed to change the path from ../images/imagename.jpg" to ../catalog/images/imagename.jpg"

I think my assumption is correct but I need to be clarified.

If my assumption is correct, would it be possible to clear the directories from the server and reload one level higher, for instance remove the catalog folder and have the path like this /public_html/includes/

If this is what I must do, will I need to make configuration changes?

    thank you
    Ivanna

It doesn't matter if your Zencart installation is in a subdirectory or not, but if you want it in the root directory (public_html) there are some simple instructions here:

Yes, you would need to have all Zen Cart files uploaded to /public_html/ as right now they are in a sub-directory called 'catalog'.

Not sure what you mean by this: " I am working on a site where DNS is still pointing to the current site"

Is the "current site" is on the same Hosting account as where Zen Cart is to be installed?

    Steve,
thank you. You have saved my life once more. I will work on this.

    Rob,
thank you for your reply. What I mean is my client already has a website www.domain.com to which DNS servers are already looking. The site is with a different host, on a different shopping cart. I am redesigning with zen cart and moving it to a new host server.

Setting up the client on the host, I gave the same name www.domain.com but without pointing DNS to the new host. That is why my address (for now) is ipaddress/~user/catalog/ instead of www.domain.com. When the site is ready all I do is change DNS server. Does my explanation make sense for you?

    thank you

For future reference, it's much easier to build using the dedicated IP address. Assuming you have one, which you should since it's needed for a dedicated SSL cert.

Ivanna, as mentioned by Resco, use your Dedicated IP address within the Zen Cart config files in place of a domain name. Zen Cart will be fully functional allowing to set it up the way you want. Once you change Nameservers to point to the new hosting account you can replace the IP address with the actual domain name. Don't use "/~user/" at all as that is bad for many reasons. I'm surprized actually that it works as most Hosters disable "/~user/" for security reasons.

    Resco and Rob,
I have a WHM from Hostgator. I have three sites that I am building, WP and ZC for me and one for a client. When I create an account, I am sent details and also one time when I could not get to a cPanel, I call Hostgator and they say use ipaddress:/~userid, so I do that. Now you say I am wrong?

So now I look at WHM List Accounts, two accounts have the same ip address, the other is different on the last octet. I think they are shared. I must contact Hostgator and find how to dedicate them.

Thank you for telling me this.

    Steve,
I used the tutorial last night and it was very easy to change the path.

    Thank you all
    Ivanna
