How can I hide sub sub categories of a category in left sidebox?

Hi all,

I've searched the forums but can't seem to find a similar thread to what I want to do.

Say I have a site selling magazines. On the main left hand sidebox it displays a series of categories as such:

Transport Magazines
Trains
Train monthly
Railway monthly
Cars
Fashion
etc.

Basically, I want it to show like this...

Transport Magazines
Trains
Cars
Fashion
etc.

So in essence, the sub categories of the sub categories should not be shown. The user would see the categories in the main window rather than as a tree in the sidebox.

I can't see it anywhere in the admin and wonder if someone could please help?

Go to the Configuration ... Layout Settings ...

Categories - Always Open to Show SubCategories
Always Show Categories and SubCategories
0= off, just show Top Categories
1= on, Always show Categories and SubCategories when selected

Turn that OFF and when you select a Category from the sidebox it will not open to show the subcategories in that sidebox ...

The admin switch will work for hiding all subcategories, but if you want to show subcats and hide sub-subcats, you need something else. Categories Dressing has settings that allow you to display any range of category levels desired (among many other things).
