Hello: user and Logout missing suddenly

I am still building my site, nearing completion, and last night noticed the "Hello <username>" and the logout link in the menu bar just flat out disappeared. I don't think I did anything, but it's now gone, and once logged in, I can't log out (and the Hello was a nice touch). Any idea where to look to get this fixed?

Interesting. I tried Chrome, Firefox 10.0.2, Safari on my imac, and once logged in can't see an option to log out. I'll try a new user account and see what happens.

Turns out the problem was due to the length of the name and the length of the menu bar were overlapping. It was set to only show the first name and it appears to work for every name now.

Ok, an addendum to this, now there is a problem with Safari only in that the "Hello: Brian Sign Out" line is moved to the search bar rather than the main menu bar. In my case the menu bar is black, but the search bar is tan, and the yellow text makes it appear that text is invisible.

Can anyone with safari on a mac confirm for me? Any idea why this may be happening? It does not appear to happen on safari for windows.
