Default How to change Template / create a new one ?

I am very new to Zencart and a newbie to the web, but i have just set up zencart and was looking for a template, i found something that i really like , and wanted to know how easy it would be to recreate this.

I am selling books just love the simplicity of this site.

Can anyone please advise where i would start to look to design a similar Template or anyone recommend where i could go to purchase a similar - can i change the default one to this easily ?

    Many thanks

There are some free templates here you might want to check out:

Much of that site's look is in styling (colors, spacing, fonts, etc.) as well as basic admin settings for sidebars and other things. Find a free template that gets close to the format of what you want, set Configuration > Layout Settings for column left/right status and whatever else is appropriate for your site.

The whole homepage layout is from a custom slideshow installed in the header, and define_main_page.php content with image links for the rest down to the featured centerbox. The fancy category images (box within box with gradients) are each just one Photoshopped image. Internal pages' categories are much plainer.
You can get the footer layout with Ezpages Footer Columns for the upper box; the lower part is all custom hard-coded for that specific site.

Many thanks that gives me some idea now on where to look and what to do -much appreciated.

I have downloaded a template but it just has text no fancy categories box on the header.

So my question is how would I go about making the “ fancy category images” but like you said a cleaner one.

You would probably use Photoshop to make the images the way you want them to look. It would be possible with modern CSS and some wrapper divs to style the simple images with the surrounding boxes.

The categories in that template are hard-coded in define_main_page.php, not in the header.
