    Default Re: issues with upgrading and the admin changes

    Im at the point where I will reuse the old config file. this is getting to complicated. new admin config looks like this:

    define('DIR_WS_ADMIN', preg_replace('#^' . str_replace('-', '\-', $p1) . '#', '', dirname($_SERVER['SCRIPT_NAME'])) . '/');
    define('DIR_WS_CATALOG', '/');
    define('DIR_WS_HTTPS_ADMIN', preg_replace('#^' . str_replace('-', '\-', $p2) . '#', '', dirname($_SERVER['SCRIPT_NAME'])) . '/');
    define('DIR_WS_HTTPS_CATALOG', '/');

    Do I need to change anything there? Normally pre1.5 I would type in the name of admin and store.

    BUT!!!!! I still feel that there needs to be a BIG explanation in the install readme file explaining this major change to admin config file. This is a ticking time bomb that will likely cause numerous and repeated posts in the next year or two, as users face renaming admin directory requirements. First time users will never know the difference but all the rest of us are used to the old admin config file changes that were necessary to make in order to rename the admin directory.

    Your opinion is noted.

    But, nobody reads instructions anyway.

    The release announcement http://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.p...ease-Available mentions it

    AND the included release docs (/docs/whats-new....html) mentions it

    AND the included Implementation Guide /docs/implementation_guide.pdf) mentions it.

    And the FAQ article explaining it also has plenty of special attention drawn to the difference. http://www.zen-cart.com/content.php?...horized-access

    And the fact that the file's contents is different should be an instant flag that they ought to check out what's changed if they haven't already read the documentation and the Implementation Guide and FAQs.

    If it were to be posted in 48-pt bold neon text it still wouldn't be read. Nor would it be appropriate to draw attention to THAT topic, when there are numerous other topics far more significant about the new release.

    Sorry that your style is cramped because something that's now more efficient has caused you to take pause and have to learn something new. Or, actually, unlearn something because that something is no longer needed.

    I read install everytime. Adding a footnote to the improvements section on line 89 with no significant details like this:

    Simplified the admin-directory-rename process: New installs now only require renaming the folder. No more special configure.php file edits!

    ..hardly qualifies as zen enlightenment.

    It does not appear in the Install.txt file.
    It does not appear in the about_zen_cart.
    It does not appear in the implementation guide.

    It does appear partially without elaboration in readme installation but nothing is mentioned about a change from past versions.
    It does appear that the file was changed in the list of files changed, but no mention of what was changed or why.

    You will be dealing with this issue for some years to come. You can bury your head in the sand and play a game of semantics or you can Flag it where people will see it and understand it. There is no explanation anywhere that explains the changing of directory names. And that is something that all of us do routinely. We all have to modify various files but the one file in common that we all must modify is the admin directory name.

    I'll give you a dollar every month if you give me a penny for every post regarding this until you fix it.

    At the very very minimum...I would include a <-- Comment statement--> directly above it with a brief explanation.
