SMTP email not working

I have configured two completely different zencart installs on two hosting companies (clients-dreamhost and mine-hostgator) with two separate email accounts but I cannot get SMTP email to send.

I keep getting "Error: The following recipients failed"... even when sending email to ANY address including my admin email address. PHP email works fine.


My SMTP settings work in my Outlook client so I know the accounts are solid.
I've tried ports 26 (Hostgator), 25, 465 and 587 but nothing works.

my settings are:

Email Transport Method = smtp
E-mail linefeeds = LF
Use MIME HTML...= true
Send e_Mails = true
SMTP Email Account Mailbox = myname@daviator.com < Of course with my real email address
SMTP Email Account Password = my correct password < tested on mail client
SMTP Email Mail Host = mail.daviator.com
SMTP Email Server Mail Server Port = 26 (Hostgator's preferred port but have also tried 25, 465 and 587)

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
