Minimum Order Amount

Is it just me or do others find it strange that Zen Cart can't incorporate minimum order amount setting within the code for this cart. To me this is a basic element for online shopping. Companies want to set a level for minimum order amounts for their sites (or at least have the option to do so) I find it clumsy to have to install add-ons for something that should be already incorporated. I have vented for many years about this but it never seems to find its way to new versions of the cart. In going over many older and newer posts regarding "Minimum Order" I still find everyone complaining how the "minimum order add-on" just doesn't work properly. Zen cart for goodness sake have a spot in the Admin area where you can just type in a dollar amount for your store and not allow checkouts unless the amount is met...how hard can this be?

It's not hard at all so you're most welcome to add the code yourself.

Let me put it this way - how much did you pay to download and use Zen Cart? So, for goodness sake, what gives you the right to demand a feature?

Since the add-on isn't working properly, why don't you write a better one and submit it to the Plugins section? If you can't write the plugin, you're welcome to hire someone to do it for you and then submit it so that all other users can benefit from it.

Now I'm leaving angry mode... What I've learned in years is that there's a reason for some things not finding their way into core functions. There are so many different things that people think are an absolute must have and it's not there. Now imagine the admin area with tons of options, which will most likely never be used by 95% of users. I've built numerous Zen Cart sites and I've never had ANY of my clients asking for a minimum order amount feature. This leads me to believe that this option is not really a must-have...

For example, some people need customer VAT number. Some need the ability to edit orders. Some need this, some need that... The point is - Zen Cart's code is really simple and can be modified to just about any needs. However, your needs and my needs are likely to be very different and it is foolish to think any platform can satisfy all needs out of the box. Not even commercial solutions can...

As for the "how hard can this be" - I'm estimating 15-30 minutes to build such a module.

There is no need to enter anger mode to thank you for your replies. First of all, I wasn't demanding, I am not a programmer, I do have a right to question and comment here (that's why it's called a forum), I have hired people to do work on my cart through this forum, and I have donated $ generously to the project back when it first started. For what it is worth, if it only takes 15-20 minutes why not include it in the core. (a simple satisfied customer request) As far as addons go I have installed them myself and have others more knowlegeable do it for me with success, but I have had issues with installing the min. order, at least the last one I tried. I may take a look at the others, some might be newer. I have worked in Wholesale-Business to Business Marketing and internet shopping for 30 years now and have seen lots of need for a feature like min. order, otherwise why would there need to be an addon.

To be fair, your initial post was rather "forthright" and a little condescending to the dev team.

So balihr's umbridge is understandable.

As you know, Zc is opensource - meaning you can do with it whatever you like. This includes writing additional features that are not part of the core code.

When there has been a compelling reason to include a feature in the core (that may have originally existed as an add-on) it has been incorporated. EG: Admin Profiles prompted the development of the new administrator management system in ver 1.5.

Did you try the one that I posted to see if it is the correct one for you?

If not, what is missing from it, so that we can help you out with the problem?

Just install the minimum order price module and that should work for you there texpro ;)

We are his developer and will get it installed. If I run in to any issues with installing it I will (hopefully) get it working and post the solution here!
