2nd model number

Hi

I am trying to get a 2nd model number to show up in admin
So in reality I can have a my own model number show up in products and the true model number in admin ..So when someone buys an item I can search the product model ,once found can then use the true model number to get item

or is there any other way I can go about this please ..Using zencart 1.5

Personally I can't see the point???
Its not like your model number is going to be superior to the items actual model number that customers would be googling your model number in preference to the items model number that customer would normally search for.

There is this
Product Extra Fields
and this
UPC/ISBN Product Fields
that might help get you started.

Thanks will look into those ... My problem is that the numbers I use are used by others ..I want to stop people using model numbers to find it cheaper ..It does vary I find cheaper items on more expensive items on my products ... Just want to see if it does make a difference

So you don't want your site to ever come up in search results when people google for the actual product number?

Yes I do but for my numbers ...Like I say it only a test on a few products to see what happens ..Looked at those 2 add ons and they weren't what I was looking for so no good

They were never going to solve your problem as is.
I suspect that the mod you are after has NOT been written, for a lot of very good reasons.
I mentioned them so you could see how it was possible to add extra fields.
To provide "inspiration" so you could perhaps modify one to your requirements or provide a starting point to write your own mod.

My point was that if you hide the manufacturer's model numbers, people searching for them will never find your site at all. Nobody is ever going to search for your custom model numbers unless they already know your site well. I think your custom model number idea is bad for your business.

maybe you are right ..was just an idea though ..I suppose in the long run I might get a sale from someone else as much as they go to find another sale
