Default no admin access after upgrade

    Hello!

I looked for the problem but the didn't find anything that could solve it for now

I upgraded today from 1.3.8 to 1.5.0 because the old version was not working with the php 5.3 after php was updated on the server the website was hosted on.

when I had 1.3.8 I renamed the admin folder with a new name, different than the /admin for security

After the upgrade I am not able to log into the admin area that has been created during the upgrade named as /zcadmin

it gives me now a 500 internal error

I now have two folders the /oldadminarea and /zcadmin but none of them allow me to enter the admin area, please help!!

    The server is a linux
    Apache version 2.2.22
    PHP version 5.3.14

    Thank you for your time!

thank you for the reply, yes I upgraded using the softaculous which is a preset "system" that reminds you of updates and similars, I did go through the /zc_install steps upgrading first from 1.3.8 to 1.3.9 then to 1.5.0

After installation I deleted the /zc_install folder. The front store works fine, I am not sure if having had a custom name for the old admin folder may have influenced the upgrade?

Softaculous isn't smart enough to know anything about renamed folders or any customizations/addons/plugins which you have applied to your site to make it no longer the same as the original code. Softaculous and any other automated scripts will simply throw in the new version's files, replacing the old ones if the foldername is the same. This affects both the storefront and your admin.

That's why it's always best to do your upgrades by hand.

I see...... pardon the ignorance, but ...is there any infinitely small chance that by moving and overwriting the old admin area with the new files, it could work?

Maybe. Your configure.php file will need some specific TLC. But there's a lot more to it than just uploading the files. Remember, many of your addons and customizations involved changing files in your admin system. You need updated versions of those addons, both for your admin and your storefront.

You can start with just copying the new admin files in, and editing your configure.php by hand. But be advised that then anything you do in your admin might break things that have dependencies on addons you've skipped installing.

And that still doesn't fix the fact that your storefront side still needs upgrading of old addons and templates that you had installed. That's gotta be done by hand too.

thank you so much for the help!

As I backed up everything before upgrading I restored the backup, changed the admin folder, ugraded again and changed the folder name manually <3 thank yo so much again!!

ps. if the new version's admin pass expire every 90 days does it mean I have to keep count of the days and then change pass every 3 months? no way to avoid that?

You don't have to keep track. ZC will do that and ask you to change the password the next time you try to login after the 90 days are up. And there's no way to avoid it. Welcome to PCI compliance.
