Problems transferring databases

I'm going from v1.3.7 to v1.5

Is it reasonable to assume that I can export the database out of the old store and import it to the new store?

I've done it several times with no error messages, but nothing's happening. I've done it using PHPMYSQL and the Database Backup Manager addon. Neither seem to do anything.

Pleeeease tell me I'm doing 1 tiny little thing wrong

First of all, you're not giving us enough information to allow us to help. When you say nothings happening, it just doesn't trip any psychic alarms. What is nothing?!?
Did you upgrade the database using the proper zc_install method?
