Shipping weight estimator and calculator is adding 3 lbs

HI. I am having a problem with the shipping calculator and the shipping estimator. Both of these functions are adding 3 pounds to my orders.
My site is in test mode right now.

I have 2 test products in the catagory of "this n that". Product 1 is 0.5 pounds and Product 2 is 0.2 pounds.
I have done several tests to see if creating a different account will correct the problem, but it does not.
There are 2 mods installed onto my template - the UPS mod and the USPS mod. Both seem to be working fine, they are just adding weight!
I am stumped. I have looked around in the forums and have not been able to find this specific problem referenced. If there is any help out there, it would be greatly appreciated. I am totally enjoying working with Zen Cart and figuring all this out because this is my first website, hopefully of many!
