Have a Drink Elderly lady needs a small bit of shipping config help.

I'm so happy I finally got my taxes and shipping fees (per weight / 2lbs is actually $2.00 to ship) basis set up! Quite a feat for me!

I can set any items weight to any amount and it becomes the items shipping fee. So good so far!

My only problem I might run into is when someone buys more than one item, I would like the shipping fee to be the higher of the two costs.

Ex: Someone buys a pair of earrings for $2 to ship and then a nicknack for $5 to ship.

I would only want to charge them $5 to ship both items.

    Is this possible?

(I am not concerned about multiple ordered heavy items shipping fee losses, as I will likely never sell multiples of anything that costs too much to ship.)

What happens when the customer buys 4 earrings and 7 nicknacks?

At first I thought I could handle shipping in my markup but i do see your point. Thanks!

May I please ask you since zone/weight shipping confuses me or else I would use that.

I only ship to US ( for now).
My home state is Texas. (Tx)

Do I just set up Zone #1 as US, since Tx is part of the US?

Also, do I need to put anything in the other zones I am, not using or leave them at their default settings?

    Huge Thanks!

The US means ALL of the US ... this includes the Armed Forces, All US Territories etc.

If you only want the 50 States plus DC or US 48 plus DC then you want to build a Zone Definition with the DETAILS ...

Are you charging the same rates for what your US definition is?

If so, then Table Rate table can be used as you can use your Zone Definition that you create with it ...

The FAQs have various examples on how to build Zones and short cuts to them can be found, such as this thread:
    http://www.zen-cart.com/content.php?...ne-definitions

There is an example for the US 48 plus DC and if you want all 50, then use it then add to the Zone Definition DETAILS Alaska and Hawaii ...

Actually, I had followed someone's post about excluding places I do not want to ship to by manually removing them from the Us zone list, just like all the other countries too.
I have 48 lower states and DC. No Alaska or Hawaii in the list at all (for now)
I figured I would get the cart working and tweak things a little at a time later.

Supposedly, the cart should toss out one of those "We don't ship to this zone yet" texts for Alaska and Hawaii because I removed their codes just like the other countries I am not ready to ship to yet.

The cart will need to grow later as I get a better understanding of world wide shipping fees.
Hopefully i did it right with that shortcut method.

    Baby steps... :)

When you say you removed them from the US Zone list ... where exactly did you remove them from?
    /your_admin_directory/zones.php

    or from:
    /your_admin_directory/geo_zones.php

where you set a Zone Definition on the shipping module?

From both Zones and Countries. Under Admin.

All that is in my Geozones/Countries now is the ISO for the US, nothing else.
All that is in my Zones is the lower 48 states and DC.

    Hope I did that right.

And under Zone Definitions - Taxes, Payment and Shipping
I have Texas set to sales tax
    and another entry for...
US only shipping (for some reason the button is orange on this but I don't tax shipping to US but Texas is in the Us...This is where I get confused.
But...... When I mock up some checkout customers it all works fine, only texas gets taxed on sales amount and Texas shipping fee is also taxed.
Other states didn't get anything taxed. So that appears to be ok, the orange button kind of bothers me though.

Hope I am making enough sense for you.

Which orange button? If you mean the yellow dot because you are using a Zone Definition on the shipping module that is normal, it means you have limited its usage ...

NOTE: Should you later want to add the countires/zones back in it will need to be done carefully to rebuild the tables correctly ... but for now, it should work for you ...
