    Default Major FUBAR- Manufacture.php gone

    Morning Zenners,

I was playing around in the manufacturers.php edits, the manufacturer_info.php under and the manufacturers.php under admin.

I was trying to change manufacturers to all vendors... I did that and now the website is gone.. so I messed up on my website somehow by changing these codes..

Any suggestion on how to get them back ? The backup I did for the files are not changing back properly..

    Many thanks

You can use the versions of the files (manufacturers_info.php and manufacturers.php) from the zen-cart original install zip-file. If you don't have a copy, you can download the zip-file again and just restore those two files to their initial values.

Yay! I'm glad you got it working.

You might want to consider creating either a hosted or local "test" copy of your store's files and database. That way, when you make changes that "go bad" you're not impacting your real storefront.

What is the best way to do copies.. copy them to your desktop computer or right on the hosting server?

    I do both.

If you are comfortable with linux, you can set up your own server with something like virtualbox (free).

If not comfortable with it and using Windows desktop, load WAMP or XAMP and copy your store and db to your machine.

I also have a 'live' site copy on another server I let my developer work on and make changes to and copy changes back to live storefront when 'complete'.

Cost, Skill, comfort level all factor in, YMMV.

Thanks Limitless. I do have a linux server but my knowledge on the server is not very good and I am considered very newbie and still learning a lot about this and zen cart itself.. I was just used to using dream weaver before when building websites, but this website is a strict linux and zen cart setup. This has been a huge learning curve for me and I know I have a lot to learn yet, my comfort level is very good at trying new things and Im not scared to mess things up when I do. I would highly love to see how the "live copy" would work and I would love to learn more about that since I love to see the final outcome after saving things.

Are you on shared hosting or a VPS?

I am on a VPS and spun up a second, smaller VPS server, installed identical software, then SCP'd the zen cart files over. Take a db backup and restore that to your test server.

Shared hosting will require a few different steps due to access limitations, but generally the same idea.

There are instructions here on how to move your site to a new server. Follow those to make a copy.

Virtualbox (free virtualization software) is available for you to run a virtual server on your local desktop and interact with it a little easier.

It wont allow 'external' access, but is nice if you are doing the work. It also has snapshot capabilities to roll back/roll forward changes.
