Disable shipping table on selected products

Hi I need to have a separate shipping price for certain products in a category that have a different flat rate price to the rest of the products in the shopping cart.

So items WXY in category 1 have a shipping table that displays prices for WXY products.

And items ABC in category 2 have a shipping table that displays a flat rate price only for ABC products.

So basically anyone who orders products ABC will only see one shipping rate in the cart and anyone who orders WXY will only see shipping rates applicable to WXY and won't see the rates for ABC and vice versa.

How would this be done?

Well W's shipping table is a table rate so it could be any of the rates set up depending on how many are ordered and what weight it falls into e.g.1kg=£2.00,2kg=£4.00,3kg=£6.00, 4kg and above £8.00

A's price would be £5.99 as a flat rate per product so it would need to be able to calculate the two together.

I don't think that an out-of-box zen-cart shipping module allows the 'pick and choose' that you're talking about. A shipping module returns a price and the customer chooses one of the methods.

It's not too hard to "clone" a shipping module; yours is a combination of table+flatrate. Let me see if I've got this right:

An order contains a mixture of products, none of which are ABC or WXY; shipping charge is flat-rate1.
An order contains a mixture of products, all of which are ABC; shipping charge is flat-rate2.

What happens if there is a mixture of products, some of which are ABC and none are WXY? Is the charge the higher or the sum of the two flat-rate values?

Is the table rate for WXY based on the number of items, their combined value or their combined weight?
