That means it's encountering a problem starting a session; probably because it can't store its temporary data in a writable folder, namely the "cache" folder.

While I'm usually disinclined to suggest doing so, perhaps using their automated installer might help bypass whatever permissions problem you're encountering?

I did find out what was causing my original deprecating error which caused me to try upgrading to v1.5. I had PHP set to v4 on the host and they have been phasing out v4 and finally caught up with my site. I swithched to PHP v5.2 and my cart came back up. Now I am going to get zencart v1.5 running and maybe look for a more stable host.
