Cant login when using the password reset function

Hi All

I cant log into my live store, I tried to log on with my known username/password, but it came back incorrect password.
I reset it using the admin page function, which mailed my registered email a new pass, but the site doesnt accept that either.
The page takes the password, and the circle rotating "wait" graphic spins, then takes me back to the admin login page with no message about fail/success.

I can see my database with php admin , so know Im using the right username.
Is there some way of updating the database with a known password value so I can hack in, or is encryption non reversable?

Encryption is irreversible.

But your symptoms of "no error message" means that there's not really anything wrong with the password. Instead, the system couldn't establish a "session" successfully. This is typically the case if you have cookies disabled in your browser, or if you're browsing in incognito/private mode.

Thanks Doctor!

I tried clearing cookies and using two different browsers - no joy.
I inserted an admin user into my database using phpadmin, and logged in with that user and password.
I then used the password reset function from within the admin page to reset my original account.
Still cant logon with that account following the reset. - however the temporary admin account can log back in, from same browser.
Is my old account corrupt or something?

Sounds like maybe your old account has a different profile assigned to it?
