Cannot get emails to send

I cannot get it to send emails to customers. Every time I update an order status I get an error message. Have tried the various types of email systems.

PHP get Could not instantiate mail function

SMTP get SMTP ERROR : Could not connect to SMTP Host

SMTPAUTH get SMTP ERROR : Could not connect to SMTP Host

I have another site www.irishshopper.com and am copying the email settings that are working 100% on this but just something is stopping them functioning on the .co.uk version and I know I am using the correct email password.

Sounds like a problem with the combination of SMTP hostname, port, username, and password.
