Send email feature with HTML emails is not working for me

Hi All,

This is a topic has been much discussed before.

I am trying to send a HTML email with the Send Email feature.

I craft a nice email with the HTML editor there, I add some text to the text only section and hit send.

The email that arrives does not contain any of the HTML part in it, only the text part. I mean I check the source of the received email with Thunderbird and only the "text only" bit is there, so it is not like there is some broken html here in play

My email template folder is fine, all the files are there, readable, and I am using English.

It has been said before I think that this needs SMTPAUTH, which I don't seem to be able to make to work, although I use SMTP in Thunderbord so the settings are clear and they are the right ones. I keeps saying that it can't connect to the host, although the parameters seem fine.

I tried sendmail and php, none of them make it work.

Another suspicious bit is that the received email header says Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1". Perhaps this should be HTML? "Use MIME HTML when sending emails" is set to true.

Any help appreciated ...

I take it that the address you are sending this to is a customer/test customer

What preferences does this "customer" have set as to email format?
admin > customer > customer > select them and "edit" > scroll down to "Email Format Pref:"

You are right, my test customer was set to text email only. Flipping it to HTML makes it work.

I randomly checked some of my customers and they all have text email selected, which makes me think that is the default. Can I make HTML to be the default for the future?

Is there a way for me to still send HTML emails to these customers who have text only right now through Zencart?

Last, there is some fluff around the image I linked in in the email (text saying Logo and my name at the top, powered by Zencart and a spam related message at the bottom) that suggests that a template is in use here. Can I customize this further anywhere?

I have the same problem with HTML messages.
I made all this above and still the same problem. The test client pref. is set to HTML and i still receive a blank email.
I use postfix mail server. Can it be a setup in the servers mail conf?

i used all email clients possible..still the same problem. (yahoo, gmail etc)

If i put a html content (copy paste the content from an html editor) the e-mail sent is a blank mail.
If i put normal text the text is received.

When HTML content is removed from emails, it's usually because your email server is doing that removal. That's an email server configuration issue, not a Zen Cart issue.

I almost posted on this thread about having problems, but I found another piece of the puzzle, a setting that also must be set to accomplish this:

Admin > Config > Email Options > Use MIME HTML When Sending Emails, must be set to "true"...

After I found this I was able to use all the settings and successfully use the system to send HTML...
