Default Email Error: Could not instantiate mail function. Hosted with Yahoo

    Hi,

having an issue with my email not being sent on my site. I'm using a PHP transport method and I have hosting with yahoo. My site: www.bequjuice.com

The email is not being sent from the contact us form and order confirmation email. But only sometimes. So this is not an on going error, maybe 30% of the time it wont work. Which is weird.

When email fails to be sent from contact us from I do get an email but it has no content. I do get to see who sent it though.

Order confirmations do get sent to the customer in this form when email fails:

    From: beQu Juice [mailto:***@bequjuice.com]
    Sent: Thursday, January 10, 2013 12:40 PM
    To: John, Doe
Subject: beQu Juice Order Confirmation No: 1234

Can anyone please help with this?

First port of call would be to ask the hosting provider to check their logs what's going on.

Other option is to give SMTP a go & see if that solves it.

Yahoo is NOT an appropriate host for eCommerce. It is OK if you want a simple HTML page showing the world your photos from your last vacation, but it is NOT good for sophisticated setups like eCommerce.

(Yahoo is on the brink of bankruptcy too, so they are very risky).

Before you get things into a really frustrating mess (and if you intend running a webshop on a serious basis), close down the YAHOO installation, get an appropriate host, and do this properly.

You may care to send a Private Message to terragirl (her post is above). If you do, I can assure you that MANY current and future problems will be resolved.

What would you recommend as a good host for eCommerce? I have thought about switching from yahoo but was afraid of messing something up in the process and not have the site working at all. Put in a lot of hard work into it. Are there instructions for doing the switch?

Just send a PM to terragirl - you'll see why when you reach her. (Mention that I sent you - schoolboy).
