and i looked in the file, but my mistake was looking for this

Remember: changes you make to that file are not upgrade-friendly. And not plugin-friendly.

Better to hook into notifier points and use an external observer class to add extra data if at all possible.

okay, i believe it, (though i like getting underhood w/ these files and seeing how they work)
