help question phpmyadmin: Can I transfer ONLY order & customer information?

I'm building a new v. 1.5.1 cart to replace an existing 1.3.8a. I would like to transfer just the existing order and customer information from the 1.3.8a, rather than replacing the entire database. Is that possible? (I assume that if it were, than phpmyadmin would be the tool used to do so)

    Thanks :)

It's ALWAYS *MUCH* SAFER to transfer the complete database.
    Seriously.

What exactly is it you want to specifically NOT transfer?

Thanks for your response - To start fresh, rather than upgrade I've created a brand new 1.5.1 Zen Cart site (in a sub-folder) which will replace the old one. Pretty much everything is in place, except existing product info, customer info and order info. As I understand it, if I transfer the complete database from the old site, I'll force unwanted changes to my new store, in terms of admin settings etc.

Am I correct in that? Obviously I'll ftp the 1.5.1 files, including new template etc., to the root where my 1.3.8a resides. I'll then update the config files. If I then do a complete database transfer, will I lose the work I've done to the 1.5.1?

    Thanks again.

Which "unwanted settings" are you referring to?

Please read this article, with the expectation that you keep your current database intact when going live, and simply apply the upgrade to IT directly: http://www.zen-cart.com/entry.php?3-...d-of-upgrading

On my 1.5.1 test site: After running zc_install/index.php and choosing database-upgrade, none of the product, customer, order etc. information has transferred. However, I can see all of this info in the database on phpmyadmin. I followed these steps:

    1) "Restored" (or replaced) the existing test database with the 1.3.8a database
    2) Uploaded all the files for the zc_install folder, and ran zc_install/index.php and selected database-upgrade

I did this twice (restoring the database each time), receiving the "Congratulations! You have successfully installed Zen Cart® on your system!" both times. Again though, no product, customer, order etc. info when I enter the admin. Any ideas what I've missed?

    Thanks again

I suspect that you also created a new db for this upgrade and installed ZenCart before importing your current database

Look at it in phpmyadmin and check the total number of tables
Also look for tables with and without a prefix
Did your 1.3.8a db have a prefix?

The 1.3.8a did have a prefix: zen_
My thinking in running the zc/install the second time was that maybe I needed the prefix. I added "zen_" but still no change. Should the "_" be included?

I see now that there are two sets of tables in my 1.5.1 database; one with the prefix, one without. I'll import the 1.3.8a database again and try the upgrade without the "_".

    Thanks for your help.

OK, successful upgrade! I needed to drop ALL tables from my 1.5.1 database and import the 1.3.8a database (and add the zen_ prefix to both config files or the "upgrade" option won't appear during the process).
Now I've just to select my template, begin resetting admin settings, re-installing add-ons etc., and Then I'll do it for real on my root site :)

Thanks for your help - The clarification on what an update is was invaluable!
