    Default How do I let robots not index EZ pages

    How do you let robots not index EZ pages?

    The url(s) are "index.php?main_page=page&id=16" and "index.php?main_page=page&id=23"

    As I place page&id=16 and page&id=23 in the following define statement located in /includes/languages/english/MyTemplate/meta_tags.php, it does not invoke <meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow" /> in the html_output.

    // Define which pages to tell robots/spiders not to index
    // This is generally used for account-management pages or typical SSL pages, and usually doesn't need to be touched.
    define('ROBOTS_PAGES_TO_SKIP','login,logoff,....,page&id=16,page&id=23');

    As you can see in my post, I think I have exactly done that. But it does not produce <meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow" /> in the html output.

    Not clear to me in your statement. Did you submit them as they are in red or green. The link I posted talks about adding the main_page= in front of page&id=16.

    There is no built-in provision to skip specific page IDs. If you add "page" to that comma-separated list, then all ez-pages will get the noindex,nofollow flag. Sorry, right now it's built as all-or-nothing.

    Hi (to anyone with an answer).

    I realise that the metatags file contains functionality to prevent robots crawling some pages, but I keep asking myself, how is this robots metatag any more (or less) beneficial than using the robots.txt or .htaccess files for this purpose?

    I'd have thought that these files would be a more suitable place to use these restrictions on account of the fact that the server reads these files before doing any other processing, thus making them a little more efficient.

    My 1st thoughts is that it for those robots that ignore the robots.txt file (not an issue with .htaccess), but since the meta-tags also depend of the robots doing 'the right thing' I've rejected this idea.

    Can anyone enlighten me?

    Thanks
    Rod

    No, I didn't. I was ruffling a few feathers in other threads at around the time I asked this, and I don't think my question was taken seriously (and I'd long since forgotten about it). CheersRod
