Can I display product quantity in stock on some items and not others?

We're trying to set up our store so that we can show quantities on SPECIFIC items only. Why? Because we're creating a "clearance" section and that's the only spot we want to show quantities. The plan is…

• Set inventory to 100,000 units on all items

• Turn off inventory count display on all products so customers don't see that inventory level.

• Then, somehow (with your help), display quantity in stock on select items only so the customer has a visual count of how remain in stock for these specialty/clearance items.

Is there any way to do this on select items or do all changes apply globally only?

Stock notifications are universally applied, but turnoffable by product type. If you can place your clearance items in their own product type, you can turn quantity off in the other product types.

Where do I go to turn off the quantity by product type (or for all products)? I really don't want my customers to see any quantities. Thanks. :-)

admin->catalog->product types->product general->edit layout -> show quantity in stock -> false.

There are also settings in admin->configuration->stock that you should look at.
