Two working admin logins after updating to 1.5.1

Total newbie. Have never tried an upgrade before. Attempted to follow directions. Now totally confused.

Put files into the template override system.
Made new database, imported old database into new one and ran the upgrade tab after uploading unzipped 1.5.1 zencart files to my public_html folder. Database upgraded fine. Gave me no errors.

Noticed I had two admins so I logged into new admin, no problems. Logged into the OLD admin, no problems. What did I do wrong? Is the old one still supposed to work? ?? They are in different folders under the public_html.

If by "admins" you mean admin userids (that you enter in the Admin Username field when you go login to your admin), you may have as many as you wish. There is no restriction.

If you mean something else, please explain.

Something different.

Talking about logging into the admin of zen cart through the path you use to get into the admin...such as www.somewhere.com/zcadmin (old login admin before upgrade)
and www.somewhere.com/newadmin after upgrade.

They both work, but the new one is missing the apsona module I had before which was expected since those files are under the old folder zcadmin

The password is the same for both even though during the upgrade it prompted me for a new one. It didn't work, only the old one worked but on the new login of www.somewhere.com/newadmin

Did that help clarify? I'm a little over my head in this and have another store to upgrade... I've only done fresh installs so...Ahh! LOL

OK. Just delete zcadmin (the old admin). It has old versioned files in it you dont want to use anymore.

You are of course welcome to rename newadmin back to zcadmin (after changing newadmin/includes/configure.php), but my recommendation is to change admin names on upgrade just in case someone got ahold of the old one.

Oh! Well that was simple!! How about if I rename the old one to zcadmin_bak for now pending delete when I know everything is working good, then rename the new one to zcadmin. Will that work just as well? I know, probably dumb questions but gotta learn somehow! Thanks so VERY much.

Not a dumb question. Here's the problem with your approach though - the old admin files will in some circumstances not work, and might even have flaws in them that have not yet been discovered. So you don't want to keep it around any longer than you have to. But for a short time, it's ok to keep it. My suggestion rather than _bak would be _deleteme or _donotuse.

Soon you'll be an expert upgrader! :)

As to the renaming issue, that is good information to know and I will do as you suggest. :)

Pulling them down to your home PC (rather than leaving them on your server) is also a good way of keeping a backup for reference. You just don't want to build up a bunch of unused files on your server.

Okay sounds good. I thought about that too but figured I'd leave it for a week or so to see how things went. I did FTP it to my pc today per your suggestion.

Thanks so much again. You helped me beyond measure since I have to do the whole thing again on another site. I learned a lot through this experience though and customization will be easier now.
