Upgrade from 1.3.8a to 1.5 copy missing data

Hi,

We are in the process of upgrading to 1.5.1 from 1.3.8a.

We have a new 1.5.1 site which is on a development server and we are almost finished upgrading. The 1.3.8a is still live and taking orders.

Once the new 1.5 site goes live there will be order, customer and some product changes that are in the live 1.3 site that will not be in the 1.5 site.

Are these easily exported from the database in the 1.3 site to the 1.5 site so that all data is accurate at the point of go live with the new version?

As per the upgrading process instructions you can place your store into maintenance mode, then export your DB, then import and upgrade your DB into your 'new' store.

Ideally this is done with a little prenotification, ie. Let customers know a few days in advance when the server will be unavailable and for how long. Be sure not to go beyond that if possible. Also, try to pick a time when it seems you have the least amount of traffic. If you practice that last operation on one or more test locations, you should get relatively good at it and should go with ease. As to the use of the old database, as part of the upgrade/testing process (and to ensure clarity) the old database should be upgraded at least once on the test/remote site before going live to see if there are any data issues that need to be addressed, and to ensure that plugins are properly managed/prepared.
