Cannot Connect to Database on Fresh 1.5.4 Install

After debugging, it was found that the newly created database needed to have the collation set to utf8 in order for the database username and password to be accepted. This isn't mentioned in the documentation and doesn't appear to be identified by the installer.

I can't replicate this problem.

This is what I tried:
1. Create a new database with default character set of latin1, and collation latin1_general_ci
2. Run zc_install and choose Install, provide database name, username, password
3. Install ran fine.

Tested against MySQL 5.5.27, PHP 5.6, 5.5, 5.4.

What did you do differently? What exact steps must I take to recreate your symptoms?

That isn't formally a requirement. There's nothing technically in the code that requires UTF-8, although it's highly recommended.
