Apply a discount based on Payment method

I am not sure if this is easy/possible but I'm sure it would not be an uncommon requirement!?

What I want to do is to offer customers a discount depending on their payment method.

To be precise, I want to automatically discount a product by 5% if the customer chooses to pay by bank transfer/cheque rather than paypal.

Does anyone know if there is already a way to do this (mod or plugin), or can anyone suggest a way of doing it.

You might be able to use this as a base and reverse it from an additional fee to a discount:

As long as it works with V1.5.1 (it say 1.5.0 in the description).

I'll try it and come back with results.

Don't know why search for payment method discount didn't find that!!!

and then just scrolled the results quick for something that sounded like it might work ...

Using negative value and changing the payment method from Paypal to Bank Transfer this plugin works a treat.

Curious, is the application of a discount in this way not actually the same as charging extra for using PayPal, which in some locations or by some policies of PayPal could be a violation of their agreement? Or is this as some say a tweener, as there is no advertised additional price to using PayPal, but in a store of possibly two payment types, might as well be. Guess suggestion is to verify/validate that not violating the agreement associated with applicable. payment processors.

PayPal has no stated policy in which offering a customer a DISCOUNT for selecting PayPal as a payment method is somehow in violation of PayPal's policy.. They have very CLEAR policies for charging a surcharge for accepting PayPal payments. That part of their policy says that you may charge a surcharge for goods/services so long as it is not tied SPECIFICALLY to accepting PayPal as a payment method..

@MC12345678 Your supposition that offering a discount for certain payment methods would be the same as charging a fee for the use of other payments methods has been tested to death in other industries. Truck stops for example wanted for the longest time to charge fees for the use of credit cards and were told no, and that it would not be legal, but after enough lawyers went over it, they decided to offer discounts for cash payments or on-account payment methods. The credit card companies might want to whine but they can't, they loose nothing. Users of credit cards pay the normal rates, so no penalty, no rules broken, and the rules are written to protect the customer from added fees....the credit card companies can not dictate how you handle your pricing in regards to other payment methods outside of their control, same goes for paypal....they can only tell you how you will treat paypal payments.
