need help upgrading

Hi I am having site issues and I know I need to upgrade.
I just wanted my site to be user friendly. I do not know a lot about all the this and that with codes and everything.
That said, I lost my programmer, he no longer answer my issues. My site is up since 2007 and I started to have some real issues early last year with emails sending from my site, and receiving orders and order display not available late last year (november). I know I have an order when the client pays with Paypal and I have to ask them what was they ordered

If I want to edit an order ( Processing to Shipped for ex.) I have this message:

I know I have to upgrade So the only questions I can answer are:
What version of Zen Cart? 1.3.7
PHP Version 5.2.17

Is it a new install or an upgrade? old install

What operating system? Mac OS X 10.9.5

What you were doing when your problem occurred? trying to view my order

What are the steps to reproduce the problem? go to my customer orders

Have you attempted to fix the problem? no, programmer not available

What steps have you taken? asking this forum

Do I REALLY need a computer genius to upgrade my site? Is there a way to upgrade without needing to have lots of knowledge of computer programming?
I have a fear of doing something wrong
Here is my dumb question: Is it easy as 1-2-3?
So what are my options????

PS: I looked into the link for upgrading and the fact I have to rebuild make me sick I can't do that

It's actually not as hard as it sounds. Just follow the directions step by step. You'll probably learn some along the way. If you get stuck just let us know where you are stuck and someone will help you.

well Thanks, I followed your link and don't fully undestrand any of the steps. I think I will have to find someone who undestrand all the terms because I wasn't part of installing the original version, just making comments on it's looks and contents, and frankly as easy it may be, it's slang for me.
Is there different steps for Mac computers?

The computer that is used to perform the upgrade does not affect the upgrade process, but there are some different programs to use than that of a PC or a Linux system. Ie., WinMerge is not likely to be a useful program for a Mac user. (Windows based program). There are also these instructions written by Dr. Byte:

This question wasn't referring to the operating system of your desktop computer, but rather to the operating system your site's hosting space is running under.. Unless you are hosted someplace really unique, I doubt it's the Mac OS..

The link mc12345678 gave you is the way to go.
If you don't know how, or don't think you can do it yourself then you may need to hire someone to upgrade for you...... :)
