Privacy error when logging into admin

I have just installed Zencart (this is a fresh install not upgrade). When setting up I stupidly ticked the boxes which says that I have SSL, which I don't. I have changed this in both the config files. But when trying to login (using Chrome) I get a message which says "your connection is not private, attackers might be trying to steal your information". In the address bar the URL is prefixed by https despite makes changes to config files. I can still continue to login, but I suspect further SSL related problems later on. I have tried clearing cache, deleting cookes but no joy. Also tried using IE but get a similar message.

Any ideas??

When you publish the config files are you certain they are overwriting the changes to 'shut off SSL' that you have made?
