Category has SubCategories Products cannot be added

Since updating to 1.54 I have the message at the bottom of the Category page

Category has SubCategories
Products cannot be added

I can't add any new folders at all. I can't even add a sub category to a category already there.

I have not changed anything since I originally set up the store. What do I need to check to figure out what is wrong.

After the update did everything work? and update from what version to 1.54 ?

No they have not worked since I updated a few weeks ago. I think it was 1.52 that I was at when I updated

Was this a textbook update with a few modules installed or more than a handful of modules and completed by a programmer?

It was an update with Softaculous.

And that would be the most likely reason it didn't work. Any chance you have backups locally you can roll back and start over manually without the auto installer?

Thank you. I was afraid You would say that. LOL I do have a backup. So here I go to fix it.

I went in to restore the back up. I have tried it 3 times. I am getting the following message
The following errors were found :

File /home/e4mpdnk7/public_html/quilts.com/includes/configure.php already exists and is write protected
There was some error while unzipping the backup files

I have no idea as to what I need to do now. Any suggestions?

I'm uncertain how you're restoring the backups... what's happening here is that the live file has it's permissions set so no one can change them.

To upload the two configure.php files that manage your zen site you'll need to change file level permissions with your upload software or through file manager in your hosting panel then u pload the 'old' or 'backup' configure.php. One in admin/includes the other in /includes.
