Default Gift Certificate delete or make zero

    Hello,

We have a gift certificate that we aren't sure how the person got it and would like to delete or just make it zero. The best instructions I've seen so far say to locate it in the database and set coupon_active to "N". I see the coupon_active column in the Coupons table in the database. BUT I don't see the GC I'm looking for here - either by the dollar amount or coupon code. However, I do see the GC I'm looking for in the coupon_gv_customer table - I see it by it's dollar amount and the customer ID matches up. Is it OK to just change the dollar amount here to "0" - will this essentially render the GC useless?

    Thanks.

Was the GV a purchase by the customer?

Was the GV sent by an Admin?

Or is this a GV that there is no clue how the customer got a GV balance?

Are you sure that the customer never bout a GV in the past?

Are you sure the customer was never sent a GV by the Admin in the past?

You said you see the GV in the coupon_active and it is Y ... if this is the correct GV, then setting it to N will prevent it from being redeemed ...

If you are 100% positive that this customer should have a GV balance of 0.00 then you could set the coupon_gv_customer record for this customer (be sure it is the right customer_id) to 0.00 ...

NOTE: be sure to really check that this customer has no previous orders with valid Gift Certificates and that you or another customer have never sent this customer a Gift Certificate in the past ...

Thanks for the reply. I'm working on behalf of the store so I don't know all the details but my understanding is they did not issue this certificate and not sure how this customer got it.

The problem is the GC does NOT show up in the Coupons table - but only in the coupon_gv_customer table. I did set this to 0.0000 from what it was. Is it odd that it's also not listed in the overall coupons table?

There are a number of ways to obtain a Gift Certificate, so it is hard to say how that got into the balance for the customer ...

Did you happen to peek in the table:
    coupon_gv_queue

to see if there was a reference there for the customer or order on this Gift Certificate?
