You should make this change in your own copy. The problem is it introduces new issues in 1.5.8+ because of (optional) sort by name on specific menus.
You could (temporarily) edit admin/includes/languages/lang.english.php and set MENU_CATEGORIES_TO_SORT_BY_NAME to blank and then things would match.That Software Guy. My Store: Zen Cart Modifications
