help question After nearly 10 years, I'm a Newbie Again

After nearly 10 years using ZenCart, I am now a Newbie again. I have had almost 20 zencart sites in the past, however have not created a new site or worked with zencart for two or three years. Thinking the last site was a 1.3x site.

Have there been significant changes since 1.3?
Do I still need to manually edit configuration files? Template specific Header, Language

    Biggest question????
Which files need to be edited to make site specific changes?

There have been significant changes to the Zen Cart base since the 1.3.x series ... to name a few:
    1. Posted forms without an associated session id will be disallowed; you'll need to check any plugins you're using and update to the current version!
    2. Admin "page registration" uses a totally different method (no more /boxes subdirectory in the admin); again, you'll need to check any plugins that you use for updates.
    3. Admin is now "responsive", which affected many of the more popular (e.g. orders.php, customers.php) plugin-changed-core-admin files.
    4. Storefront now includes a responsive_classic template, which you can "clone" to apply your customizations if desired (via use of the "Clone a Template" plugin).
    5. Many, many bugfixes.
    6. Changes to support PHP versions 5.4 through 7.1.
    7. No need to manually update the admin configure.php when you change the admin directory name.
    8. UTF8 support, both in PHP processing and database configuration.

That's just the "tip of the iceberg". You can refer to this Zen Cart FAQ for details regarding the procedure to use to perform your sites' upgrades.

Not doing any upgrades, just looking for a list of files that need to be manually edited for site specific info

Given the number of Zen Cart releases since 1.3.x, I'd suggest using a file-comparison program like WinMerge or Beyond Compare to determine what the differences are.

It'll be significantly faster and less error-prone than merging the changed-files documentation for each of the newer releases!

OK, my bad. Just FTP the full Zen Cart file-set to your hosted site (after creating a database with a default collation of utf8_general_ci) and then run the zc_install script.

zc_install will guide you through the installation steps.

I think the answer to the OPs question is... no change... as far as what files need to be meddled with.
The template system is just the same, albeit with a new responsive template included.

It would help if you could elaborate on what you consider site-specific info. There are a couple of language files (/includes/languages/YOUR_TEMPLATE/english.php and /includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/meta_tags.php) that are usually changed, but there might be more depending on your "definition".

It's all the same as before, define pages and a few language files. As always, the developer's toolkit is your best friend for this. Nothing in this respect is different than when you put your 1.3 sites together.

Zen Cart and it's community are the best!!
