If the user enters only one letter "all products" are shown which is not desired for the shop owner.
Two letters show about half of "all products" which is not desired too.
The products do not contain the search string at all - very strange if you ask me!
Is it possible to make 3 letter minimum required or another even better solution?

I suggest you look into Instant Search and drop the search sidebox in favor of the one in the nav bar.
