Going crazy because i can't figure out how to get site on the internet

I posted this question on Linode support and Linode commuinity forum but not resolved yet.
So may be I can get resolution here.
In linode I used Domain Manager to set A record to point to site.
Next, I setup up virtual hosting correctly, apache reports: Syntax OK.
I am now tinkering with /etc/hosts file
I have two versions, none work.

A
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.1 mysite.com

B
127.0.0.1 localhost
my IP mysite.com
Reloaded apche2 to shtick config.

What am I missing?

In this one answer B. is correct, but apparently virtual hosting was missing, but that is another topic, I will be glad to deal with it if a request is made.
