Logged into admin, I am unable to edit description of main category
Found icon to edit, now rephrasing, how use CK editor to edit?
The first additional post to this thread is an example of why more should be described when asking questions. For other readers this is basically a continued discussion from other threads with the OP.
Consider what information has been provided and the question asked.
Two things initially came to mind:
That this is directly related to the issue experienced with editing define pages.
As somewhat clarified below, how did one navigate the Zen Cart admin to get to a screen allowing edit of the category description? This was not clear in the asking of the question.
This revised question appears to be related to: https://www.zen-cart.com/showthread....52#post1395152
The solution may be different, but the same issue appears to be occurring here as was there.
That said though and in light of what was needed to locate the edit button in the category row, now have to try to understand all sorts of other possible situations. My initial smart Alec answer was to simply start writing when the description is shown. But, the absence of other data means we have to ask all sorts of questions which could have been prevented by addressing the posting tips and describing known conditions that we can't see.
Is ckeditor installed?
Is it shown as active on the screen?
Is it present, and text isn't editable?
What software has been installed in addition to the core Zen Cart code?
What edits have been made to the existing code?
Are you able to edit anything in the admin that offers a text box?
Etc, etc, etc.

@mc:
Thanks for continuing support, in reality is it not the same: I can edit the description but there is no CK editor as there is in Define pages, which leads me to think that CK editor is pre-installed in Zen Cart, it is an option that is not offered in the Admin categpries/products section, the option is present in Define Pages Editor and I set it so when configuring the store, there is an option to select plain text or CK that is how I got the option in define Editor, I didn't install any additional plugin, I am not at that stage yet.
I tried to write an html anchor tag with a link to a pdf file in a PDF directory that I created in / (root) but the link does not show in storefront, so it is related to a previous post about linking to EZ pages in the description, it has to be done with an anchor tag, I see no other way, but it does not work.

Sorry, sorry, sorry.
My anxiety to finish this website took control of me, so I pressed the panic button too early, as usual.
I need to return to the psychiatric ward -))
Issue is SOLVED!!
I simply checked under Configuration what were the settings for HTML editor, set them to CK, refreshed system and voila' CK editor appeared in sll its glory, and it gave the correct syntax for anchor tag.
This is a great help for me since it will speed up creation of site.
I find it much easier to create pdf files with images and everything then to use EZ pages, just a different way to achieve same result.
Now that I got it in the test site, I'm ready to go live, it's just a protocal change in CK to https.
It took me a long time to get the web server to work the way I need, but I am a stubborn SOB.

Congratulations on discovering a solution and following up with what you did to fix it... Way to go!

Let's close this thread, OK?
This is part of the point of what was being pointed out by some of us. Seldom is a thread closed for comments/replies.
That's why the posting tips ask for an abundance of information with EVERY post. No one should have to search where the site's information may have been completely disclosed. Likewise, one should not have to guess at a website if the goal is to change something that others could actually "see" if they had a link.
Of probably the most important is the steps to recreate the problem AND the steps taken to fix the problem. Even if the solution was an admin setting or a mistake in editing a define (it's quite common to leave off a ' at one or the other end of a define).
You are not the first nor will you be the last to not turn on CKEDITOR in the admin. BUT, if that were not part of your post, someone with a similar problem might never find the solution.
We all make mistakes, miss settings, and edit files we swear we never touched. Pobidy's Nerfect.
Admitting that along with the steps that caused the problem should always be open to search if only to help someone else in the future.

I only wanted to close thread because there was nothing more useful to say.
zI f you want an explanation about why the setting was changed in config, ii is because I was looking for the cause of not being able to write in Defiine Pages editor, unitil I discovered that the cause was unrelated to that setting, then I forgot to turn it back to CK.
Cheers,
CK
