    Default Re: How to edit description of category to include a link

    If you want even more, I thought that a text editor like Writer in Libre Office was more suitable to produce complex documents with several pages, images, sections and chapters than EZ pages, so I decided to create such documents and then export them to pdf, which would open in any browser. so i created a PDF cirectory under root
    as storage, moved my pdfs in there and then created a link with CK in category description and...
    IT WORKED!!
    Now don't tell me that most ZenCart users don't use Libre Office, I don't know what they use and don't want or need to know, but they must have something similar and the procedure is so simple that anybody can reproduce it.
    Cheers,
    CK

    If it saves text in the same manner as word, it is not recommended.

    Notepad or notepad++ do not add extraneous code to the file.

    A test would be to type "Hello World" into Libre Office and save it as hello.html. Then, open it in notepad. MS Word uses 765 lines of code to create that file. Since Libre Office claims to emulate Word, I would avoid using it.

    This is totally fine. Be sure to follow all the best practices for doing this (i.e. index.html and .htaccess files)

    and (perhaps) add these files to your sitemap:

    Libre Office does not claim to emulate anything, it just opens MS documents and can save in that format (not recommended), recommended format is odt: open document text.
    Where did you see that claim to emulate?

    • emulate
      COMPUTING
      reproduce the function or action of (a different computer, software system, etc.).
      "the adaptor is factory set to emulate a Hercules graphics board"

    If it opens, edits, and saves as .doc files it is emulating Word.

    I think that @ckosloff was just using Libre Office to author the docs on his own computer, then generate PDFs for display over the web.

    It is true @dbltoe that as you mentioned, Notepad or Notepad++ are better choices for plain text documents, but he's creating more complex documents with embedded images, etc.

    You are correct but the PDF will still be bloated as the PDF will have to uitilize all the extraneous code embeded in the file even if it doesn't "show" to the customer.

    My overall point is to steer away from non-standard operations. Other than using 1.5.8a and a current PHP, I find it hard to advocate any of the methods used as standard operating procedures (SOP).

    I would submit that less than 2% of ZC installations will ever find themselves in this situation.

    While I gladly support and attempt to help that 2%, I feel there needs to be some disclaimer throughout the thread(s) with links to the actual SOPs.

    @dbltoe
    You are stubbornly insisting in your error, when I use Libre office I use odt format to create documents and export to pdf, in what way are they bloated with MS code?
    You can call me names,
    You can step on my blue suede shoes,
    But no man no, don't step on Debian Linux.

    @swguy,
    Of course, of course you are absolutely right.
    Thanks for your intervention full of common sense.
