use cart for quotation requests and skip shipping/payment

Currently I´m only using zencart as a showcase, so clients can login and view the wholesale prices. Now, I would like to offer my customers the opportunity to select products and request for quotations, by confirming the products in their cart.

Because of available stock and different shipping costs it is not possible to directly sell my products. So, in the order process I would like to skip the shipping and payment pages. By clicking on checkout the customers should be directed directly to confirmation of the order. Then I would be able to get back to them with a customer-made quotation.

Could anyone give me a hint how to configure this?

I don't know how todo this since I'm not in that position but I would have thought if you make your products virtual then the shipping bit shouldn't be asked during checkout.

Interesting concept that we have heard a few want ...

We will keep this in mind for otherways to manage products ...

There are several issues to consider for those who want:

1 Quote Only Shop

2 Mixed Shop with Buy and Quote Only Products

But we shall keep this in mind ...

Send money? Why not?
It shouldn't be difficult to get some people interested in it and sponsoring the development of such a feature.
I don't know if it goes against any ethic or code, but it sounds fair.
As for the options you present, I think it would be easy to start with a "Quote Only" shop in which products are selected into an inquiry cart later to be transformed into a zero-valued order and sent to the shop owner upon checkout.
This should cover the majority of requests. Then it could be enhanced if required.
