Default Overriding Product Image Selector thru Database

I uploaded all the product pictures into the images directory through Dreamweaver.

Instead of typing the image name for each product I went into the database and typed them directly into the image field in the products table but they dont show up on the site, still the no_picture.gif.

I went and typed in the picture name through the product admin and it appeared broken in the preview and then nothing shows up at all in the store view, not even the no_picture.gif.

I re-uploaded the picture through Dreamweaver and then it finally showed up properly in the store.

Can someone explain why this is happening? What else goes on behind the scenes besides adding the picture name to the products table when you use the product admin to add a picture?

    Thanks

If I browse to the photo through the admin and reupload the picture that way, everything works as normal. This probably explains why the thumbnail is broken in the preview when you type it in directly, since it has no referrence to the image.

The normal method is not to edit the DB directly.

you can upload the pics to the image directory via ftp or anotherway in bulk.

You then only need to enter the pic name in the product entry field.

One may work out a way to populate this but have you looked at the easy-populate contribution in the downloads section?

Thanks for the reply. I understand that its not the normal way to add photos, but it peaked my curiousity as to why it doesnt work.

I will check out the download section, thanks for the tip!
