Store Credit

I do not give cash refund but would like to offer them a "Store Credit" so that they could use the difference on another item. I do not want it to be a Gift Certificate, just a credit to their account on the site. I ran into this problem already where a customer returned an item but would not purchase a the new items until they had the credit of the item back which paypal will not do without a charge to them and then hit me with a new fee on repurchase. Some do not have an account with paypal so crediting them via paypal is worthless. It would not pay for me to use Authorize.net (or it’s likeness) yet since I’m just starting and my sales are not enough to justify it. I would think there is SOMETHING out there that can be modified or used to make a STORE CREDIT.

Isn't that what Coupons (as opposed to GVs) are for?

That's not a bad idea BUT what if they have a $66.01 Credit (Or coupon in this case) and they only buy $48.87 worth of stuff? What happens to the $17.14 left as credit. I really don't want to have to go back and issue another $17.14 coupon. I'm sorry but as a consumer I think of the word "Coupon" as referring to a discount given by the company not money that is mine to use such as a Store Credit which is my money but just being held by the company I'm doing business with.

I've not had much to do with the mechanics of the coupon system, but you could edit the text aspects of it to say whatever you want.

I've thought about modifying the Gift Certificates or the coupons to work. Only thing with coupons is I don't think it will leave difference for an account balance if they don't use it all. Gift Certificates I think could do what I'm looking for if modified. I'm going to toy with it for a few and see what happens. I'm not the greatest coder in the world so if someone beats me to it, PLEASE let me know :)

Djkoko, I think you were on the right track in the beginning -- unless there's a way to use Gift Certificates or Coupons automatically. Because requiring the customer to type in codes to use their own money -- well, it doesn't strike me as being professional and user-friendly.

It should be intertwined with their account, and displayed on the frontpage when they log in. When they check out, the credit should be deducted from their order total. I'd be interested in this mod, as well. I'd invest a little bit into something like this.

Couldn't we just create a new order_total mod, that would display the amount on the frontpage and applied at checkout, if it was > 0. If the order total were less than the credit, the remainder is written over the value of the store_credit amount.

Doesn't seem like it'd be very difficult. What do you guys think?

I have tinkered a tad bit but haven't had the time as of yet to really dig in. I'm am thinking of adding a 2nd Gift Certificate package but modifing it for "Store Credit" I have been trying to find a module package or just a gift certificate Add on Module to tinker with. I don't know yet enough to find every file within zen to make my own package. Eventually, if no one else come up with something I will figure it out.

djkoko, let me know how you are doing with this. This seems to be a needed feature. I am starting to sell MP3s at my store and the Store Credit option is needed. The Payment Gateways cut is just too high for 99c MP3s.

VirtueMart for Joomla/Mamba seems to have a module that does this (google vodes) called vodes. I am considering swiching, but hope it does not come to that.

No Luck yet. I can not find all the files I need to modify to make the module. IF some one can help out let me know. I just need all the GV package files and the Sql. All that needs changing really is wording. It will then be installed as a separate module.
