    Default self signed cert

I realise that a self signed cert is not the way to go for a live site, but I would like to try and set the site up with one to test. The site is for my brother-in-law, but I have the job of setting it up.
I am unsure as to what the lines on the configure files should be for a self signed cert, and whether I should have a copy of the "shop" folder in the ssl folder on the server. Zen cart is installed to www.footballscotland.hazlenet.net/shop

No it looks like this is a cpanel install so you do not need s copy of the shop folder in any other location
    Your ssl settings look correct,
you will need to however actually generate the self signed certificate

I have generated the certificate and it shows up in the ssl manager of the cpanel as being installed, but when I try to go to the checkout it brings up an error

The connection to www.footballscotland.hazlenet.net was interrupted while the page was loading.

I can access the checkout area no problem when the

    define('ENABLE_SSL', 'true');

    line is set to false

    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

the SSL cert is not installed right
you might also want to try using the hosts shared certificate

There is no such thing as a connection to a sub-domain with www. in front of it. Sub-domains are always http or https://folder.domain_name.com

Do I need to set up a sub-domain then?

I have a website set up at www.footballscotland.hazlenet.net and set up Zen cart in a folder(called shop) within that site, so the shop address is www.footballscotland.hazlenet.net/shop.

As you can tell I'm getting a bit confused now

hazlenet.net is the domain, whilst footballscotland.hazlenet.net is a subdomain. You have further compounded it by putting it in a folder on the subdomain.

You should be able to get it to work, but there is no such address as http://www.footballscotland.hazlenet.net, because as a subdomain its address is http://footballscotland.hazlenet.net

Drop the www. from the configure.php files and see if it works.

I removed the www bit from the congure.php files, but has no success.
I think I may wait until my brother-in-law decides on a hosting company and domain name and gets that set up and try the ssl with a bought certificate and the new domain name.

Thanks for all the help though. This site has been a huge help in getting this far.
