    Default Database error upgrading

im upgrading from 1.24 to 1.3.1 and i get this error in the admin shown at the top

Your database appears to need patching to a higher level. See Tools->Server Information to review patch levels.

when i try to patch it in the admin, it just shows the .sql file as text, what have i done wrong?

it worked for 1.24 to 1.7, but not higher

    thanks

Hoping that you still have a clean 1.2.4 DB backup...

This is a bit convoluted but what has been recommended and I have done it and it works.

Have your 1.2.4 DB file where you know its' location on your PC.

In your 1.3.0.1 install & DB; load phpmyadmin and this db, select all and drop all tables.
Still in phpmyadmin and this DB restore from your 1.2.4 backup.

Now with your FTP client, connect to your host, if you erased the zc_install folder reload it, if you renamed it name it back to zc_install. Make writeable your 2 configure.php files: /includes and /admin/includes.

in your browser, load the site like http://www.mysite.com/zc_install (add the sub folder if required) and begin the install, you will be presented with an upgrade the DB option. Select this option and ZenCart will upgrade your DB and complete.

Reset the permissions on the configure.php files and you should be good to go

NOTE: 1 thing I like to do when upgrading ...

You will see all of the checkboxes that apply to your Upgrade ...

I uncheck all but the first checkbox and run that ...

Then I check to see what errors, if any happen, before I go on to run the next checkbox by itself ...

I keep doing this, and check for errors as I go along so I can see what I may need to fix ...
