    Default How to restore database?

Here is what I did: first, I did a test v1.3.0.1 "changed files only" upgrade to a newly installed v1.3.0 in a different directory to be sure I could do it. Resulted in errors that I searched here in the forum and could find no helpful threads on. So I tried a new upgrade to the same test site, this time using the v1.3.0.1-full-fileset. This worked fine, with no errors. So, I did the same v1.3.0.1-full-fileset upgrade to the actual site, at http://petticoatporch.com/miniatures/
    Looks fine.

The problem is in restoring the original database. I did so, using the cPanel database restore function, and then opened http://petticoatporch.com/miniatures/zc_install and went through the steps to do a "Database Upgrade". Was this the correct thing to do at this point? Because it does not seem to have worked. The categories and products that existed in the backed up database are not appearing in the upgraded site. I logged into the Zen Cart admin and checked to make sure they were not there, just hidden or something. They aren't.

    What am I doing wrong?

Was this upgrade to a 1.3.0 site or an earlier version? and what version?

    To "a newly installed v1.3.0".

Sorry for the time lag...weekend & all...

Normally, for the new install the sequence is to do the fresh install, then with phpmyadmin drop all the tables in the DB. Then restore from your backup(old DB).

When this is done, re-run the zc_install, it should recognize that their is a ZenCart already installed and offer a couple of options. and the "upgrade DB" option is the one that you want. Select it and it should make any DB alterations that are required.

This is all that you need to do as the fresh install has updated the files to the version you used and the only requirements are that the "old DB" that you restored then need the DB changes.

Thanks for the reply, kobra. I did pretty much what you describe, except instead of using phpmyadmin to restore the DB, I used the built-in DB back-up and restore function that my web host's cPanel has. Is there a way to do it with that? ~anne

One must perform the drop tables step and normally phpmyadmin is the favored method. If you did not first drop the tables but just restored the backup, the extra tables remain and the zc_install should not recognize and present the "update the DB" option.

For future reference, here's an article on using phpMyAdmin for doing backup/restore activities:

    What process do you refer??
I have done what I have described many times, and it always works.
