Default Re: How to restore database?

If your new shop database is a copy of your live shop database and upgraded ...

    Can't you:

1 set the Live Shop Down for Maintenance

    2 backup Live Shop Database

3 Drop the tables of the new shop database

4 Load the Live Site database to the empty New Shop database

5 Re-run the /zc_install to Upgrade the new shop database

6 Test all is right in the world ...

7 adjust new shop configure.php files to the paths for Live Shop
DO NOT change new shop database ... this will become your "new" Live Shop Database

8 Rename the Live Shop directory /old_shop

9 Rename the new Shop directory to the Live Shop Directory

    10 test test test

11 if all is correct and running, turn off Down for Maintenance on Live Shop

NOTE: Always backup your database(s) and web site before attempt upgrades, changes, etc.

    Re: How to restore database?

    Thanks for your time Linda!

Your suggestions are the same as my thoughts; however, I'm concerned since the "Live" store DB is Database Patch Level: 1.3.0.1 and the "New" store DB is Database Patch Level: 1.3.0.2 that there could be a conflict or data missing...

In this case, perhaps it would be best to upgrade the "Live" DB to Database Patch Level: 1.3.0.2 prior to exporting and importing into the "New" DB...?

    Thank you again,
    Jim

If you empty the New database ... and load the Live database into it ... then run the /zc_install and Upgrade ... wouldn't that make it upgraded to your new version?

Be sure to back up everything ...

    Thanks Linda!

I agree with your advice but really wasn't sure what occurs during upgrading the DB...
If you don't hear back, all is well...

Idea or Suggestion Re: How to restore database?

    Hello again,

Unfortunately, when I dump DB 2(new store) and import DB 1(original store), proceed with Upgrade DB, I loose ALL the formating and other customizations I spent time on...

I re-imported the backup for DB 2(new store) and everything is back the way I customized things...

This is probably due to the different Zen-Cart versions. Remember:
"Store 1" is Zen Cart 1.2.4.1 and "Store 2" is Zen Cart 1.3.0.2

I might have to accept I'm loosing 2 new customers and one new order in the New DB(Store 2)...

    OR

It would probably be easier to compare the two SQL Export files from the DB's, create an SQL Insert for the two new customers and the one new order as opposed to attempting to upgrade the Zen-Cart 1.2.4.1 version up to 1.3.0.2

    Any thoughts...?

    Thanks again,
    Jim

    Prior to an upgrade ...

You could do an export of the tables that do not match that have the settings you need ...

Sort them on the same field such as the configuration table sorted on configuration_key before the export ...

Then export as Complete Extended ...

After the upgrade to the same export of your new tables ...

I use Beyond Compare from scootersoftware.com to view the 2 exported files side by side to see the differences ...

This can help in resetting things you have customized ...

Note: be sure you have backups and are updating the settings correctly in the new updated database to match your upgraded site ...

You can do this for any table to help ensure settings are the same ... you just need to take your time ...

Practice the exports and the review of the 2 files so you become familar with what you are trying to compare ...

I have read and read on this and i think i have it right-

I followed the phpmyadmin db backup procedure, exactly.

I currently have a fudged install of superorders - so to clean up I should be able to grab the SQL file and import over top of my existing DB. simple right?

I think this can be done in this fashion because the phpmyadmin procedure includes DROP Table commands. If it did no include these one would manually drop all tables and then import the backup sql file.

    can I get a confirmation on this.............please
