Free Shipping - strange behavior

I have been playing around with the free shipping module. I'm trying to offer free ground shipping on part of my pruduct line for the summer (would be really neat is Sale Maker had this option!) Anyhow, I modified my products that will have free shipping, and turned on the free shipping module. All was OK, but then I thought it would still be nice to offer faster shipping options, so I played with the Free Shipping Options module.

I discovered that it will allow my other Fedex options, but the pricing is all wrong. Typical shipping for these items is about $60 or more (large and heavy) but now it shows about $17. Whats going on?

So I turned off the Free Shipping Options module, but I still have the other shipping options showing up. Ack!

Hmm, also just noticed that one of my shipping modules doesn't even show when a free item is in there. Arghh!

Any input would be great.

The Free Shipping freeshipper only shows when the others do not and only shows when shipping is $0.00

The Free Shipping Options freeoptions shows when the other Shipping Modules show, but you can configure this based on various criteria for total, weight or item count or combinations ...

Always Free Shipping requires that the Free Shipping freeshipper be loaded as when that is all that is in the Shopping Cart you need a valid Shipping Module ...

Yes, I understand this. Unless I'm missing something.

So lets say I would like to offer free ground shipping, but also offer faster shipping methods if the customer wants to pay for these methods, how would you do this correctly? I thought I knew, but as mentioned the FedEx module is returning the wrong values. It seems to only be getting a fraction of the weight??

You could use the Free Shipping Options freeoptions as the Free Shipping method as this will show will all of the other Shipping Methods and you can change the text in the language file to what you want it to show on the checkout ...

Set the Total >= 0.00 and all other settings blank for it to always show ...

I did try the free shipping options, but the FedEx quotes were a fraction of what they should have been. Does it try to charge only for the shipping beyond the cheapest level?

So if it costs $25 for ground, and $45 for over night, it would come up with $20 for the overnight?

The Free Shipping Options freeoptions will not effect FedEx ...

It should always be present with a $0.00 amount unless you change the amount ... if it is not showing, edit the Modules ... Shipping ... Free Shipping Options and make sure only the Total >= is set to 0.00 and the other settings are blank ...
