upgrade to 1.3.0.2, went bad!

Ok, I updated and lost everything, well not everything but most of it. All my products, meta tags, ezpages. I did a back up of my database and of my site before, is there a way to put this stuff into my site w/out having to re-do it all?

well thanks to my great host! (siteground) they fixed it all for me, and did it really fast.

I still wonder what I am doing wrong, It seems I always have this problem when I update, why would this be? I know someone is going to tell me to read the install files that are included w/ the files. If so, I did that.

When you went to Upgrade your database ... did you hit Upgrade or Install?

Upgrade will apply the new changes ...

Install will wipe out the existing database and start fresh with a clean install ...

I like to start with a test directory such as /new_shop and a test database that I load a copy of my Live site into ...

Then I copy all of my Live site files to my /new_shop and copy all of the files for the new version to /new_shop

NOTE: often it is a good idea to use something like Beyond Compare from scootersoftware.com to do a comparison on the files to your existing files from your site ...

NOTE: Always backup both your site and database before upgrading ...
