    Default Free Template "Future Zen" v1.2 Support Thread

    This post announces the arrival of future Zen v1.2. Which at the time of posting is awaiting moderator approval in the Zen Cart Downloads area.

    Version 1.2 continues to meet the original three objectives

    designed to meet three objectives:
    1. To provide new users with a starting point that is as appealing as the classic template but doesn't have the headaches that are played out over and over again in this forum
    2. To show how much can be done with almost no effort by harnessing the power of the template_default and CSS
    3. To be trivial to install

    It also still consists of just 11 files, 8 of which are images including a screenshot. The other files two are a stylesheet that does most of the work, the obligatory template_info.php file and the installation instructions. And yes, the template still has no php changes and requires no php knowledge.

    The main change since the previous version is that it uses the sliding door approach to background images, allowing the layout to be either fixed or liquid. Sidebox widths however, are still fixed at 150px, though users designing their own sidebox images can easily change this.

    Thanks so much for the new Future Zen contribution, kuroi!

    This is what my web host techie friend tried to get me to understand in the
    beginning of my ZenCart journey...to make the page fit the monitor of the
    viewer. Your new template prodded me to try to get it right this time.

    Again ... Thanks so much!

    Thanks for the kind comments. It's good to see that you've adjusted the side box images and widths to suit you design. Nice job.

    Thanks for a great template.

    I had to create a future_zen folder under

    /catalog/includes/languages/english/html_includes/

    to place my define pages. Without those all of your define pages are lost. Did I do it the right way?

    Also, is there any way to add an extra line at the bottom of all of the side box contents?

    My boxes sometimes have text running through the NICE radius'd corners and I though that an extra blank line at the end of the contents would look better and fix that problem.

    Thanks!!

    Yes. Though personnally I prefer to to create these pages using EZ-Pages as they are then held in your database and backed up with the rest of your data leaving less scope for loss and a much easier interface for turning pages on and off.

    A much better solution is to increase the amount of padding in the sidebox content. Find the following section of your stylesheet and increase the highlighted number. I find that 0.8 usually works well
    .sideBoxContent {
    background-image:url(../images/sidebox_content_bg.gif);
    background-repeat:no-repeat;
    background-position:bottom;
    padding: 0.4em;
    }

    I've uploaded the future zen files to /includes/templates but I don't see future zen as an installed template in admin. I'm using 1.3.8. I read in another post that furture zen does work from 1.3.8 as the demo template site is 1.3.8.

    Thanks for any help you can give.

    Hi Suekay,

    FutureZen works fine with 1.3.8a

    Make sure you uploaded to the correct directory (most templates have the ../includes/templates/template_name directory specificed, however you need to upload this one directly into the templats directory - that may be the problem.

    Hope that helps.
