Hidden Value (SKU?) - How To

Need to assign a string value (ie XXX123445) for each product.

This value is not publicly displayed, but show's itself to the customer in either the order confirmation email or the on-line detailed invoice.

Try in the Admin Catalog - Product Types - "Product Type" - Edit Layout - Show Model Number.

If I recall correctly this will not show up on the product page but will show up in the order e-mail. Let us know if it does work as I haven't looked at this in some time.
