Default bad gateway when accessing admin area

I recently was helping a friend of mine to get a shopping cart installed. I had him use the same host as I was using a while back and we downloaded the latest version of Zencart. It gave a bad gateway and contacted the ISP who told us that there was a problem with one of the php scripts and suggested we reinstall. I simply renamed the old directory and uploaded another set of files, this time an older version (1.27) that I used to use when I had a web site running and used Zencart. This version also gave us a bad gateway error when we attempted to access the admin section. Going to the main site was fine, only when we attempted to login to the admin area did we get the error. I'd like to know where are problems are, is it in the php files we have uploaded, a problem with our ISP, or something else? We have not attempted to do anything but install the scripts on the server and then go into admin to start setting up things. Can someone help us?

Sounds like your webserver isn't meeting with success when attempting to check the Zen Cart versioning server to see if updates are available.

You can disable it by editing the setting in the /admin/includes/local/skip_version_check.ini file.
