Is there a way to disable the customer signup process? I just want my customers to be able to buy something w/o having to signup and then remember a username/password the next time they want to buy.

This has been disucssed many times,
NO there is not a way to disable customer signup.

While you cannot turn it off- we have tried to make it easier- the username is their email address (1 less thing to remember) and it is very easy to get a password if they forget.
